[What the role is] The National Arts Council seeks an experienced Assistant Director to work in its Visual Arts Division to enable the growth and development of the Singapore Visual Arts Sector through the formulation of policies, strategies, and grants administration. The Assistant Director will lead a team to deliver on two Visual Arts initiatives the Singapore Art Week and the Public Art Trust. The Assistant Director will be engaging with partners, stakeholders and grant applicants for evaluation of funding proposals and ensuring good governance and adherence to funding conditions for funded projects. [What you will be working on] Oversee and manage the Singapore Art Week and the Public Art Trust; and with a team of officers to successfully deliver on the project and programme outcomes. Develop and formulate policy and recommendations for the benefit of the Visual Arts sector (e.g. plans for residency programmes in the region, strategies to grow Singapore’s commercial visual arts ecosystem, plans for public art). Forging new partnerships (e.g. residencies) to provide opportunities for Singapore artists to gain exposure and grow Singapore’s reputation internationally. Regular and timely engagement with a wide range of stakeholders in the visual arts sector to co-create solutions to achieve policy outcomes. Supervise grant administration, which includes evaluating applications for grants, scholarships, awards, etc., and ensuring good governance and adherence to funding conditions. Keeping abreast of international trends and developments to contribute ideas towards programme and industry development. [What we are looking for] At least 8 years of work experience, 5 of which in a supervisory role. Must demonstrate success in project /programme management. Experience in business strategies and development would be an added advantage. Proven ability to negotiate, build sustainable relationships and work proactively with people at all levels to achieve project objectives. Have strong organisational and management skills. Candidates with relevant experience in arts administration and programme management are preferred. Good knowledge of the Singapore Visual arts landscape is highly preferred. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to maintain a professional approach at all times in often demanding and high-pressure situations with a proven ability of working with the community. Proven ability to actively and collaboratively contribute to a high-performing team which delivers outstanding results, and to constantly seek ways to improve own contribution. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage both internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency in effectively using online systems as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Possess an analytical mind and sense of empathy. A high level of initiative, drive and resourcefulness. Applicants who require work passes need not apply.
