We are responsible for the big data platform at Workday on both on-premise and public cloud. We provide highly available and scalable data services related to persistence, compute and enterprise security. Our services enable Workday to quickly and efficiently scale to meet the needs of our multi-billion-dollar customer base. We are crucial to the Workday Analytics family of products. We power reporting, analytics, machine learning, and other data-centric applications. We are constantly innovating and challenging the way we do things. About the Role The Workday Big Data Platform team is seeking enthusiastic, innovative, experienced, self-motivated engineers to design and implement best in class solutions in one of the biggest hybrid-cloud environments on Earth. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting our fault-tolerant, high-performance platform for data analytics. What You Will Do: Rapidly build new applications and automate operations on an existing, robust enterprise big data platform Modernize our on-premise Hadoop infrastructure to provide public cloud-like services Work on multiple types of software development including backend, front-end, and devops. Devops will be the primary area of focus. Collaborate with other team members to deliver cutting edge solutions and deliver value to our customers Build on existing skills to become a domain expert Serve in an on-call rotation as an escalation contact for critical production issues Work on multiple types of software development including REST services, logging/monitoring, and DevOps. About You Basic Qualifications 2+ years of software engineering experience, 1+ years of distributed systems engineering experience, primarily in Java Working knowledge of build automation and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo) Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and likes to solve problems Bachelor's Degree or higher. A Computer Science degree is preferable. Experience with configuration management utilities such as Chef, Ansible or Puppet Functional proficiency with Linux systems (e.g. CentOS, Red Hat) Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skill Other Qualifications One or more of the following: Scala, Python, Ruby Good understanding of how Hadoop/Spark cluster works Familiar with distributed computing design patterns Experience managing deployments with Kubernetes and Docker container General knowledge about public cloud capabilities and architecture Our Approach to Flexible Work With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote.
