As a Mechanical Engineer with the Sampling, Preparation, and Analysis - Mining (SPA Mining) team, you will be playing a pivotal role in the global SPA Mining Project Engineering Team to design, engineer and deliver state-of-the-art automated laboratory systems, sampling systems and online analyser systems exceeding the customers’ expectations. SPA Mining has the equipment and the expertise to deliver both standard and bespoke automated or manual laboratory and sampling solutions to the global mining industry. And your knowledge in mechanical engineering will further strengthen our specialised expertise in delivering technologically advanced sampling and laboratory solutions. Your responsibilities This exciting position requires working with internal and external clients for projects globally. This means that the following responsibilities would require domestic and international travel and the ability to be work autonomously while in remote locations. • Responsible for design integrity of project and products • Build detailed design for projects using both standard products or client-specific requirements • Conduct engineering studies for customers • Assist proposal team with review of customer specifications, suggestion of existing and new technical solutions • Occasionally take part in Factory Acceptance Tests or in installation and commissioning of systems • Train customers in operation and maintenance of systems • Through the service teams provide expert support to customers • Suggest or support research and development projects for automated laboratories • Work with our partners, vendors and manufacturers • Support technical development of members within the team • Constantly increase efficiency of engineering team by development of design standards /guides, guide specifications, and design control procedures • Analyse complex design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures • Build engineering designs and drawings including 3D and 2D modelling • Perform mechanical calculations and simulations • Promote a culture of personal and team safety, including others who may be affected by the company’s operational activities What you bring • Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics is also acceptable) • Master’s degree would be an added advantage • Fluency in English verbally as well as written. • 8 years’ work experience • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team geographically distributed in multiple time zones • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects • Some knowledge of robotics would be an added advantage • Experience from working in an international environment • Willingness to learn and undergo job specific training (ex. software/project/sampling) • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills • Computer experience using standard MS Office suite of programs is required • 3D and 2D CAD experience with drafting knowledge, preferably Inventor, AutoCAD and Vault • Some experience in finite element analysis will be an advantage • Experience with laboratory automated systems preferred Safety • All employees and workers are required to conduct themselves in accordance with our HSE Vision to achieve Zero Harm to; our people, the environment we work in, our customers and our suppliers. • All employees much have a positive approach toward continuous safety improvements. • The employee or worker must comply with all aspects of the FLSmidth HSE Policy, and any reasonable instructions, procedures or systems of work which are given in the interest of providing safe workplaces and eliminating environmental harm. • The employee must take reasonable care for their own health and safety, and ensure that their actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of any other person in the workplace.
