Junior Hardware Engineer (R0237837) Location – Crawley (Hybrid) The Role Provide Hardware support to the current team involved in evaluating solutions, investigating problems and designing circuits. This will be primarily in the HF domain but may extend to the V/UHF domain. The role will involve the use of simulation tools to aid in the analysis and development of circuits, you will also produce circuit schematics and provide input into PCB layout engineers to assist in the PCB design activity. You’ll design electronic hardware rigs and assemblies and perform hardware integration, verification and qualification. You will also produce design documentation through the complete product lifecycle from requirements capture through verification test schedules to manufacturing test specifications. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop within this role to take on increasing technical responsibility. This is a very diverse role, working across disciplines, not pigeonholed into singular RF products, or even just RF, but tackling key development challenges across hardware, testing, fault-finding, software, firmware across a variety of RD programmes. Good communication skills are essential as the role involves collaboration across departments on the site to ensure a design’s smooth transition through purchasing and manufacturing, along with reporting progress to project management. Key Responsibilities Support the RF team in problem solving and solution evaluation. Be responsible for their own times management against agreed objectives. Design and development of innovative reliable solutions Test, measurement, debug and verification Simulation and analysis Presentation of technical issues at design reviews Preparation of design documents Technical assistance to production Skills and Experience (Knowledge or Keen interest to develop these skills). Knowledge of Engineering Process and lifecycles, specifically DDQS. Knowledge of Lean Engineering Knowledge of Design for manufacture / test / support Knowledge or RF circuits and systems specifically radio communications equipment. Design experience and/or General knowledge of the following: RF power amplifiers, RF filters, RF distribution (splitters, amplifiers and combiners), receivers, oscillators, frequency synthesisers, and EMC. An awareness of digital control via microprocessors, programmable devices, DSP, FPGA, memory would be an advantage. An awareness of DSP techniques would be an advantage. An awareness of communications interfaces such as Ethernet and RS-232 / 485 would be an advantage.
