SQL Server Database Engineer The SQL Server Database Engineer will provide production and development support for LSEG database applications. This includes designing, developing and implementing database systems with advanced automation tools in accordance with industry best practices. The SQL Server Database Engineer will design and document strategies for backup and recovery, performance analysis, database clustering, and data management. The SQL Server Database Engineer will also be responsible for database connectivity using ODBC, JDBC or vendor specific architectures, provide user and developer assistance, and also be a point of escalation for first line support. Key responsibilities of the role: Develop and maintain database build standards including security to industry standards, patching and high availability Monitor and manage database resources to ensure optimum performance Document and manage database server procedures such as backup and restore, upgrades and disaster recovery procedures Undertake maintenance and upgrades, generally out of normal business hours including weekends. Provide database design support to development projects. Performance tuning and diagnostics. Review database application code and advise accordingly. Manage and maintain the source code control system for the database objects. Assist Windows administrators as necessary to support applications that use the databases. Participate in the support shift cover 8am to 6pm and be available for on-call service. Shift cover will mean that you perform tasks that may be outside of the normal responsibilities. Develop and maintain a strategy for database management to include both manual procedures/spot checks and automated alerts. Assist IT Security in maintaining an appropriate database security policy. Evaluate and implement applications to ‘police’ adherence to policy. Key behaviours and skills required to be successful in the role: Have experience in supporting business critical applications and servers in a multi data center/ multisite environment. In particular the jobholder will have experience in the following areas: SQL Server DBA. Extensive experience in SQL Server 2008 – 2019 Database Administration (Enterprise and Standard editions) Clustering SQL Server Always On SQL Server Replication SQL Server Mirroring SSRS, SSIS Windows Server 2008 – 2019 Database Infrastructure Installs, Upgrades and Patching OTHER REQUIREMENTS Experience with Sybase ASE (15 - 16) would be very favourably considered. Experience of working in the finance/banking sector would be an advantage. High Availability and Disaster Recovery using Storage Based Replication Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at both business and technical level. Excellent problem solving skills, able to think clearly under pressure and across technology boundaries. The ability to plan and manage work and present a clear list of tasks and time frames to management. Understanding of ITIL Service Framework Familiarity with monitoring products. Powershell Scripting TSQL Cloud Technologies (Azure AWS) DevOps and CI / CD Tools: Bitbucket, GitLab, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Hashicorp Vault, AWS Workspace OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS Experience with Delphix Python Perl scripting Control-M Data Warehousing Distributed Transactions Other database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SAP Hana ServiceNow Experience in Citrix, Web Development would also be an advantage. Required Behavioural Skills Strong persuading and influencing skills. Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively at both business and technical levels. Excellent problem solving skills Able to work independently with the minimum of supervision. The ability to liaise with different levels of staff within the organisation. Good team player. Must be motivated to progress in the role. Self starter with the ability to plan and manage work according to deadlines Pragmatic approach. Willingness to share experience / knowledge.
