[What the role is] This is a 2-year contract position as an Engineer, Research Development in the Environmental Water Technology Centre of Innovation. [What you will be working on] The sustainable materials team in EWTCOI at Ngee Ann Polytechnic is an established and dedicated setup focused on providing expertise and technology support to SMEs looking to engage in innovation on new products, improved processes and/or enhancing existing products. Visit the EWTCOI webpage (www.np.edu.sg/ewtcoi) for more information. The centre is looking for a Research Development Engineer - Sustainable Material Technology (SMT). Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Engage with industry partners, especially local small and medium enterprises (SME), to provide sustainable solutions and/or technology innovations Conduct feasibility studies, Proof-of-concept (POC), and secure RD/Consultancy projects in the area of Sustainable Materials Technology Develop composite materials (such as re-use, recycling and recovery) from different waste materials into resources Lead in composite materials synthesis, formulation, and process optimization Manage the project, prepare presentations, technical reports, documentation of project outcomes, and liaison with vendors/suppliers for project procurement Be both a strong individual contributor as well as a collaborative team member within multi-disciplinary teams Mentor student interns Coordinate and communicate with team and industry collaborators for project implementation [What we are looking for] Applicants are expected to be highly motivated and versatile individuals with the following attributes and qualifications: PhD in material science or in other related disciplines or Master Degree with at least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in sustainability-related industry Experience in composite material synthesis, surface functionalization and material characterization (SEM, FTIR, TGA, BET, ICP, and tensile strength) Good problem-solving and analytical skills Must be able to work independently, be resourceful and analytical, and have good writing and communication skills Prior knowledge to perform formulation-related activities; includes conceptualizing, modification, and testing using analytical equipment Work experience in composite manufacturing processes such as molding, Twin Screw Extruders etc. Knowledge in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) solution to quantify the environmental impacts The Singapore Public Service plays a key role in the economic growth, progress and stability of Singapore by formulating and implementing government policies, as well as providing key public services.
