Title: Lean Specialist Manufacturing Engineer Division: Weir Minerals Location: Poland or UK Onsite/Hybrid Purpose of Role: The Lean Specialist Manufacturing Engineer will be a key role in implementing a fast paced value stream transformation of a complex manufacturing process encompassing Foundry, Machining and Assembly processes with the objective of reducing lead times and improving operational effectiveness and efficiency. The first 12-18 months of employment will be project focused supporting a transformation of our European distribution network in secondment to the Supply Chain department. Subsequently, as part of the Weir Minerals Europe Operations team, we work within our lean manufacturing production system and strongly focus on our SQDCP. Key Responsibilities: Initial 12-18 months Support all industrial / manufacturing engineering requirements for the distribution transformation Coordinate with other project team members to develop and provide layouts, site specifications, risk analyses, and equipment specifications Keep records of technical calculations, decision-making and so on related to IE / ME work for the programme Support the procurement process in coordination with local teams, Indirect Procurement and other project stakeholders as appropriate Support knowledge transfer during the move of specified operations from one site to another Support stand up of operations in each site and troubleshooting during initial period Capture lessons learned and apply them in future stages of the programme Project manage sub-sets of actions on behalf of the programme manager Utilise lean methodology / tools and support teams to create and deliver improvement plans Work with the Operations team to remove cost from manufacturing processes in order to ensure margin maximization Coach teams in lean best practice / operational excellence and plan and deliver lean training workshops Comply with health and safety work requirements, fire regulations, COSHH regulations and safe working practices Set clear targets for savings / efficiencies and monitor success against these Eliminate / reduce non value added activities Support all continuous improvement activities Provide daily, weekly, and periodic performance measures to the Operations team Develop robust project plans and project manage all aspects of lean projects within the department Undertake project related activity as required Support activities related to the change management framework Any other tasks commensurate with the role Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture. Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications: Good understanding of Lean principles Engineering qualification at diploma or degree level is required Substantial experience of managing improvement projects in a multi-process manufacturing environment Demonstrable experience of operating within an engineering manufacturing environment with a track record of implementing effective lean manufacturing strategies as well as improving systems and processes Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop effective business solutions Excellent project management skills with proven experience of delivery Experience with designing site and factory layouts and specifying equipment, including use of Visio and CAD Should speak and write English and Polish Founded in 1871, Weir is a world leading engineering business with a purpose to make mining operations smarter, more efficient and sustainable.
