Senior Engineering Manager is a 2.13.1 appointment in terms of MHSA, to provide technical and people leadership and ensure the provision of efficient and effective engineering services through the co-ordination and management of all engineering activities including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, capital control and procurement.The Senior Engineering Manager is also responsible for providing a dedicated focus on maintaining and improving engineering standards and procedures for the Project in order to reduce operational and business risks and to protect the capital assets of the company. The role furthermore supports large capital projects to successful implementation.The role forms part of the Mine Senior management team, while providing technical, consultancy and advisory support to the leadership teams on mine and all the Engineering disciplines.Key Responsibilities:Effective critical control management for all priority unwanted events.Ensure Asset Management Plans (AMP) are in place for critical fixed plant equipment (surface and underground for the Venetia Underground Project). Critical equipment includes a refrigeration plant, pump stations, critical communication infrastructure, twin vertical shafts, winder houses, surface workshops, conveyors, apron feeders andcrushers.Implementation of the Managed Operations and De Beers Corporate Asset Management Strategy.Use the De Beers Asset Management (AM) Framework to develop the site AM Strategy, AM Plans, Labour needs, legal obligations and training requirements.Translate the strategy into the annual technical people plan as part of the operational planning process.Ensure critical Plant and Equipment strategies / tactics are delivering to the defined availability, reliability and cost / operated hour within the lifecycle model and production plan.Ensure that equipment is constructed and commissioned aligned to the quality plans.Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant external and internal stakeholders (i.e. relevant regulatory authorities)Ensure appropriate Maintenance Strategies are in place.Ensure equipment maintenance strategies are operationalized into effective work packages and tactics. Ensure all work is planned, scheduled, executed and monitored in accordance with Operating Model and all legal appointment/ statutory requirements are executed, including orderly shutdown.Manage a multi-disciplinary maintenance team.Ensure transparency in data and metrics - 'one source of the truth'.Drive engineering discipline in terms of feedback into the maintenance management system.Identify persistent/ chronic issues and imitate a process for resolution.Use the data and functional benchmarking to identify opportunities for improvement.Ensure all major defects and critical equipment failures are addressed through the Defect Elimination process to prevent recurring failures in accordance with AA standard.Provide people leadership within the function by managing workload, assigning tasks and reviewing/recognizing outputs of team members.Motivate the team and drive a culture of Reliability and zero breakdowns.Ensure proper management of all engineering contractors and contracts.Provides consistent outstanding behaviour in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.
