[What the role is] The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is Singapore’s central bank and integrated financial regulator. As central bank, MAS promotes sustained, non-inflationary economic growth through the conduct of monetary policy and close macroeconomic surveillance and analysis. [What you will be working on] You will be part of the Labour and Research Division within the Economic Policy Group of the MAS undertaking in-depth analysis on macroeconomic and financial issues relevant to Singapore. You will participate in, and lead, teams conducting research as well as surveillance and assessment of global economic and financial developments. You will contribute to the preparation of regular reports and briefings on current economic developments to support the monetary policy process. This role requires the ability to apply conceptual economic frameworks and econometric methods for policy analysis. You will have the opportunity to provide research-based policy advice to MAS management, brief policymakers on your research and engage with visiting academics. [What we are looking for] A recently completed PhD or (Research) Master’s degree in Economics or Finance (or closely related fields) A background in theoretical and empirical macroeconomics as well as a good understanding of Singapore’s economic policy context Substantial experience in quantitative economic or financial analysis, and a track record of conducting independent research Good writing and presentation skills in English, as well as good interpersonal skills Strong interest in contributing to public policymaking in Singapore Programming skills in one or more of the following software packages: Eviews, MATLAB, Stata, Python, R or Julia The Singapore Public Service plays a key role in the economic growth, progress and stability of Singapore by formulating and implementing government policies, as well as providing key public services.
