About Victory Group

Victory Farms is one of the fastest growing African businesses, with the mission of providing affordable, sustainable, and healthy proteins to 3 billion Africans. To do so, we grow, distribute, and sell tilapia. We are vertically integrated, meaning we own and operate the full value chain from feed production, to genetics, to fish production, distribution and cold chain, and sales at our own branches.

Victory Group owns Victory Farms Kenya, Kivu Choice in Rwanda, and a feed mill (Samakgro). In Kenya, our farm is near Homa Bay, and we have logistics centers in Kisumu, Nairobi, and Mombasa. The feed mill is in Naivasha. In Rwanda, we are between Kigali and Lake Kivu.

We employ ~1,000 people across Kenya and Rwanda. Beyond that, we also employ casuals at our farm and logistics center. Our team is highly diverse in terms of educational background, gender, nationality, and age. We are all driven by our values of family, development, and environment.



Your responsibilities

Victory Group’s team is growing and is looking for a highly qualified People Director to cover Kenya and Rwanda.



Your key responsibilities are around:

Strategic leadership

• Develop and execute a People strategy aligned with the company's growth objectives in collaboration with the Group’s leadership, including developing the Group’s organizational structure, balancing effectiveness, cost-efficiency

• Create an attractive employee value proposition, combining the social mission of the company with the offered benefits; continuously benchmarking this across the region, sector to further improve the proposition

• Set up strong people planning processes across different levels of the organization

• Pressure test the existing HR practices, such as performance management

• Work with cross-functional teams to enhance reporting and workplace efficiency



Culture development

• Spearhead initiatives to develop culture of professionalism throughout the organization, around e.g., communication, punctuality, ownership, working schedules, etc.

• Lead change management efforts to embed a professional work culture successfully

• Collaborate with the HR team to develop initiatives that further enhance employee engagement and satisfaction



Sharing best practices between Kenya Rwanda

• Establish methodology for institutional learning to flow between the countries

• Lead the sharing of best practices and ways of working between HR teams in countries

• Work with HR Directors to further develop their teams



About you

• You have an MBA or another relevant advanced degree from a reputable school

• You have 4+ years’ experience in management consulting, general management, Strategic HR, or change management project work

• You have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization

• You have change management experience and the ability to influence change and get employee’s buy-in, in particular in the context of emerging markets

• Must have strong problem-solving skills, be able to make decisions in a timely manner and develop creative solutions to complex challenges

• You bring a strong work ethic and positive energy and are always looking for improvement opportunities, even when the work is demanding

• You have affinity for working in a young, dynamic organization with our social mission and want to contribute to Victory’s growth

• You are familiar with, or keen to learn about, the East African culture and its people



Further information

• Location: You will be based at our HQ in Nairobi, which are in Westlands. You can expect regular (~monthly) travel to the farm near Homa Bay and the Logistics Centers across the country, and Rwanda for a few days to a week at the time. You can work from home 1 day per week

• Team: You will report to the Group CEO Chief of Staff, while working closely with the HR Director in Kenya and HR Manager in Rwanda, as well as the Group CEO directly. For different projects and programs, you will work across teams such as Finance, Administration.
