Job Description: As a Senior Director in our Data Office, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our data strategy. In this leadership position, you will oversee and drive activities related to data sharing, governance, and access across the organization. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will define and implement data acquisition policies and practices, ensuring the efficient and effective use of data to support our scientific and business objectives. Key Responsibilities: Strategic leadership: Provide strategic vision and expert direction to the team, overseeing data governance process management, procedural documentation, and continuous process improvement in conjunction with cross-functional stakeholders and subject matter experts Collaboration and Governance: Facilitate data governance and data acquisition forums to support decision making around data usage, foster development of data sharing community, and advance best practices. Will be expected to participate in Data Governance council meetings to address queries Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with key stakeholders in Research, Development, Commercial, and other departments, ensuring alignment with data acquisition and data governance policies and practices. Will also include leading interactions with end users to gather business requirements / metrics and communicate value of the data acquired. Communication and Advocacy: Synthesize complex data and present clear recommendations to senior leadership. Serve as a central point of contact for key stakeholders, addressing queries and ensuring effective communication about the Gilead data office. Data Governance Council Coordination: Drive and coordinate the agenda and meetings of the Data Governance Council, providing regular updates on Data Office activities, implement and manage data governance policies, reviewing requests for data access and approving/denying as per established protocols. Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about evolving regulatory requirements with regard to use of observational research in the life sciences sector, ensuring that RWE practices comply with data privacy and security regulations. Ensure new regulations are interpreted and incorporated into the data governance process and procedural documentation. Data Processing: Oversee prioritization and coordination of data ingestion processes and the conversion of data into Clinical Data Models (CDMs) as needed. This also includes driving standardization and adoption of data visualization, data catalogues and any ease of access systems. Data Strategy and Acquisition: Coordinate the development of a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives and also responsible for data acquisition activities. This will also include facilitating negotiations for data acquisition to ensure alignment with business priorities. External Data Collaborations: Enable and maintain external data collaborations, fostering relationships that enhance Gilead's data capabilities. Oversee the recruitment, expansion, and retention of data office team by providing clarity of purpose, commitment to professional development and build a culture of accountable and high-impact leadership. This includes mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment. Education and Experience Doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, MD, ScD, PharmD) and/or Master’s degree (e.g. MSc) in Epidemiology or related discipline, such as Outcomes Research, Biostatistics, with a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant, post-graduation experience; preference for a minimum of six (6) years of that experience to be in the biopharmaceutical industry, with direct involvement of data acquisition, data governance or the analysis of patient level data. Demonstrated leadership in driving data strategies, governance and strategic thinking. Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills. Proven leadership experience, including managing teams and driving strategic initiatives. In-depth knowledge of data governance principles, policies, and best practices. Strong negotiation and communication skills with a track record of successful stakeholder management. Experience in managing external data collaborations and partnerships. Experience in influencing key stakeholders within the organization conceptualizing and leading a successful change management program. Experience in sitting as a functional representative at key governance bodies within the organization. Ability to influence and achieve goals while maintaining productive organizational relationships. Well developed cross-cultural sensitivity. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
