Shell is looking for a Business Development Lead to support our emerging offshore wind business in the country. Harnessing Japan’s abundant offshore wind energy is poised to be a major lever for Japan to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Where You Fit In Shell has been an active player in Japan’s energy industry for over 120 years, and we have started building a customer centric integrated power business, designed to meet our customers evolving need throughout the energy transition. As the Business Development Lead for Offshore wind Japan, you will be part of Global Renewable Solutions within New Energies, and reporting into the GM Offshore Wind Asia. GRS is a growing global organization with in-house capabilities covering the entire life of an (floating) offshore wind farm and more. We work closely with our colleagues from Functions, Project Technology and in-country teams to develop offshore wind projects with linkages to power trading, hydrogen and ultimately with our customers. What is the role? As the Business Development Lead, you will be tasked to evaluate potential opportunities with functional experts against commercial, technical and non-technical criteria. You will be a core member in each phase of the project/asset life cycle. At any point in time you would be contributing/leading multiple projects and, in future – supporting the management of operating assets. You will maintain day-to-day contacts with partners, suppliers and contractors and will participate on behalf of Shell in Industry Association activities to advance offshore wind as a sustainable sector. In partnership with the country chair office and the corporate relations team you would support the advocacy, where appropriate, of ideas that would positively evolve the local offshore wind regulatory framework. Together with colleagues across New Energies, Shell Energies and wider Shell, you will be advancing a local customer centric integrated power business. What We Need from You? This is a key role to realize our offshore wind ambition in Japan. We’re therefore looking for someone who loves learning, strives, is highly motivated, seeks challenge, driven, committed to improvement, and highly determined. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable with challenging conventional thinking and approaches to arrive at innovative, pragmatic and effective solutions and ways of working to overcome the challenges and to seize the opportunities inherent to building a new business in an industry that is new to Japan. More specifically, the following requirements are must haves: Ability to speak, read and write Japanese at native level and fluency in English. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree education, an MBA is an advantage. Significant experience in renewable power generation/offshore wind development in a joint venture setting, ideally you have supported the development of an offshore wind farm before from origination to commissioning. General understanding of the evolving Japanese power market structure, corporate power purchase agreements, renewable energy certificates and offshore wind economics and regulatory framework. Perseverance and ability to cultivate strong positive working relationships internally and externally to get things done. Exposure to developing investment cases and having the resilience and resourcefulness to overcome challenges.
